Some birds are the most exquisite beautiful creatures whereas some are just a real pain. We can probably all agree that pigeons, seagulls and crows are some of the most annoying birds out there.
The problems birds cause include:
- Property and equipment damage
- Disturbing noise
- Health-related problems
- Crop damage
There are bird control decoys you can buy without having to spend a lot of money. Here is our list of five common ones:
1. Owl, falcon and hawk decoys
Life size bird of prey decoys are great for scaring away pest birds. The effect of the decoys rely on the pest bird’s instinctive fear of predators. Put the decoy in a place where it can be clearly seen by the problem birds as they approach their roosting, perching or breeding area.
2. Action decoys
Wind activated flapping wings, reflective eyes and rotating heads as a part of bird of prey decoys act as very effective deterrents against pest birds. They work in the same way as still decoys, and some of the more advanced ones even make a hooting sound.
3. Robot decoys
Powered by batteries, these robot birds mimic the behaviour of real birds of prey by moving their heads and wings and making different bird calls. If there are no high roofs or anywhere you can place the decoy, there are lofting poles available too. Or why not choose a solar powered robot decoy?
4. Kite decoys
Designed to help farmers, gardeners and mariners scare away pest birds. Kite decoys are a realistic replica of a bird of prey that will dip and recover in the wind imitating the movements of a real bird. You can also just fly them for fun.
5. Balloon decoys
Keep away pest birds with intimidating 3D predator balloons. They feature big predator eyes in bright colours and they move in the wind. Plus you can use them pretty much anywhere; trees, gardens, garages, doorways, barns and more.
What all of the decoys mentioned have in common is that they are virtually maintenance free, they are easy to put up and take down and they are neighbour-friendly. Not to mention cost effective.
